The Latino Experimental Theatre Company
PROGRAMS
LETC creates and performs work in four different categories:

THE CULTURAL TRADITION SERIES explores Latin American heritage and culture through multi-media performances of traditional or cultural celebrations combined with popular poetry, music and history (e.g., Day of the Dead/Día de los Muertos, La Pastorela, Los Fantoches, etc.)

THE CLASSICAL DRAMA SERIES introduces classical works by Latino and European playwrights (Lorca, Ionesco, Brecht, Ibsen, and Beckett) to the Latino community. These plays are performed in Spanish in more traditional interpretive styles.  LETC does translations of plays and poetry from Spanish to English as well as from English to Spanish; some of the plays and performances are adapted for children.

THE CONTEMPORARY DRAMA SERIES is designed to showcase work by lesser known contemporary Latin American and Spanish playwrights ("Abuelita de Batman" and "The Return of Abuelita de Batman" by Alejandro Licona).  This series investigates new performance trends and experimental styles, sometimes adapted to the experiences or lifestyles of Latinos in the United States.

THE EXPERIMENTAL THEATRE SERIES opens doors to collaborations with non-theatre artists and includes other artistic forms such as dance, creative movement, sculpture, poetry, prose, music and video, thus creating theatre without boundaries.

"In 'Voices and Bodies' the Latino Experimental Theatre Company interprets nine Spanish, Latin American and American poems, mostly in Spanish, with a powerful fusion of performance mediums. . . And the five-person cast requires only seconds and minimal dialogue to create rounded characters."  Deborah Skolnik, New City.  (Voices and Bodies, 1990-92; Voices and Videos, 1993).
