Paint for Peace is a non-profit organization comprised of young, diverse artists and activists who strive to create a culture of peace, fortify

communities and bridge the gap between humanity and politics through artistic endeavors.

Paint 4 Peace is currently attempting to raise $20,000 to develop and photo department at Humberto Garavito University in Xelaju, Guatemala. This is one

of the only two public art universities and is in dire need of funding— they currently lack the financial backing to provide even the most basic supplies

needed for an art curriculum.

This summer our executive art director, Maya Escobar will be teaching black and white photography at the university. Paint 4 Peace is purchasing

cameras, chemicals, enlargers, photo paper, and anything else needed to fully stock their photo department. 

It is our goal to help develop this program and to set up a system that allows the students attending Humberto Garavito (ages 14-21) to send their

work to be sold here in the United States at fair trade prices, the profits in turn being sent back to the artists.

In order to raise the $20,000 for this project Paint for peace is hosting an art auction at Sonotheque, located at 1444 W. Chicago Ave., May 15th, 2004

from 6PM-9PM. All donations are tax deductible.  Tickets to the event are $40, checks can be made out to our fiscal agent, Centro San Bonifacio Inc..
